OUR NETWORK CONCEPT & BENEFITS

"Think regional, act local and use IT to make every business decision an informed one"

The concept of the Countryname-YellowPages.com is simple. It allows for the provision of a standard web site design template common to all countries in the region, yet ensures a high degree of flexibility thus catering to the different national tastes.

Various sections such as the business search, trade enquiries, research assistant and community centre sub-sections are identical. This allows potential customers the distinct advantage of being able to search for products and services on both a national and regional basis by means of a section to section crossover facility linking the different national sites.

Simply put, a customer who logged onto Thailand-YellowPages.com looking for 'plastic raincoats' could use the section to section crossover link to search for the same product across the region.

Our progressive elimination database system will greatly enhance the chances of matching the right customer with the right product. Potential customers will be able to use this at either a national or regional level.
(see hotel promotion for an outline of how the PEDS works).

In the unlikely event that the potential customer still did not find the product or service they were seeking, they could then submit a standard trade enquiry, selecting the member countries sites they wanted the enquiry posted on. When requesting the information search, the same options would apply.

Other sections such as news and views will be presented in a format acceptable to the government of each particular country. We are not a political organisation……. we are a trade forum.

Our objective is to erode, as quickly as possible, the current advantages enjoyed by the technologically wealthy countries, and the countries of the Asian region.

We believe this is to the advantage of all countries and is best achieved by providing our advertisers with basic e-commerce solutions that are viable and they can afford.

We are convinced that an online business directory for Asia is of little value unless;
1. Local SME's see the benefit and want to be listed on it.
2. Its membership grows at a rate that will allow it to boast that it includes a very high percentage of the region's SMEs (submitted by the companies themselves) within 1 year of its launch date.

OPERATIONAL VIABILITY

The technologies we have chosen for our (Countryname)-Yellowpages.com site are founded on MySQL and PHP running on a Sun Server.

MySQL is an extremely fast, simple and stable database with a high degree of security.

PHP is a server-side programming language which is fast becoming standard issue on Unix servers because of its simplicity and power.

Sun servers are simply the fastest and most stable servers available today.

Using these two software elements, MySQL and PHP in conjunction, development time is drastically reduced without sacrificing flexibility or security so that web pages can be created or adapted quickly to meet our visitors'demands and to increase the scope of the site as a whole.

From the visitor's point of view and that of our advertisers, the pages are served up quickly and laid out with a degree of precision difficlut to attain using other programming languages such as Perl or Microsoft's ASP.

From our development team's point of view, we can quickly and easily put pages together using popular design tools such as Macromedia Dreamweaver.

The common web site template system allows the advantage of spreading development and promotional costs across the different web sites.

The high level of automation employed in our web site content management means our operational overheads are minimised.

Initially, our membership will market the product for us by providing the names of other potential clients when submitting their own company listing.

By the end of year one, we will implement our local agent concession network which will employ franchise style sales techniques to penetrate the market at grass roots level.

BANNER ADVERTISING OPTIONS FOR POTENTIAL SPONSORS

In mid-May 2000 we will start marketing our controlled banner advertising sales programme. Banner space will be sold on a 'per page view' basis and banners will only be uploaded onto specifically selected pages.

We will only accept banner advertising from companies who's products or services are aimed at helping the region to level the IT playing field.

Enquiries regarding banner advertising are welcome and should be emailed to: marketing@Thailand-YellowPages.com

ASSISTING THE REGION's I.T. DEVELOPMENT

It is our intention that a significant amount of business profits will be ploughed back into developing both the regions' IT capability, and supporting our customers business development. We envisage this being done in the following way;

1. By funding scholarships that will allow local students to attend further educational studies in the IT and business studies field at recognised institutions in the region.

2. By funding market research projects aimed at assisting our membership to reach a larger market. These reports will advertised online be made available to our membership free of charge. (See note 1 below)

3. By funding the development of 'business models' for various types of business as categorised in our business search. The reports would be made available to our membership free of charge. (See note 1 below)

4. Working together with, and providing assistance by way of funding to, the Maekok River Village Resort – Management Training and Team Building Facility. The objective being to develop and run programmes that will;

Allow corporations to properly assess the man management, teamwork and aptitude of potential junior or middle managers recently graduated from further educational institutions, or from individuals seeking to better their employment opportunities.

Allow corporations and governments access to a programme that will allow them the opportunity to assess the suitability of middle management staff currently employed by, or made redundant from sundown industries, for trainee or middle management roles in sunrise industries.

Note 1.
ADDRESSING THE NEED TO CORRECT INVESTMENT IMBALANCE BETWEEN IT RELATED BUSINESSES AND THE MORE TRADITIONAL BUSINESSES

We firmly believe that the current imbalance of investment between the IT and traditional businesses manufacturing/services etc. is far more dangerous to both industries than most people believe it to be.

Quite simply, the investors are overlooking, or choosing to ignore for the sake of quick profits, the simple fact that traditional businesses are being denied much needed development funding. Too high a percentage of available investment funding is going into internet start ups.

Before too long, the IT companies will not have a customer base because they have denied those customers access to funding.

A balance must be struck. Realistically, it is probably only those businesses that are currently reaping huge profits that will be able to, and should, reinvest a high percentage of those profits back into traditional business.

Potential advertisers should consider the re-investment and customer assistance programmes of the portals and directories seeking their advertising dollars before deciding where to advertise.

OUR VIEWS REGARDING THE VARIOUS ONLINE PAYMENT OPTIONS AVAILABLE TO SMEs FOR B2C – BUSINESS TO CONSUMER TRADING

Only a small percentage of e-commerce is or is likely to be between business and consumer, or B2C as it is fast becoming known. We feel that the various online payment options currently available to both business and consumer are in most cases both insecure and not financially viable. We would of course love to be proven wrong….for our advertisers sake, and welcome banner advertising from companies who feel they have a viable solution. It is of course up to our advertisers to make their own choices.

THE FUTURE OF YOUR COMPANY IN BUSINESS TO BUSINESS (B2B) ONLINE TRADING

Some 85% of e-commerce is, and will no doubt continue to be conducted on a business to business basis, commonly referred to as B2B trade.

Thai businesses, like other businesses in the region and elsewhere, will be forced to compete for business in the global marketplace, against the rest of the world

Every day you read in the press about the major corporate players forming online purchasing companies, either on their own or in alliance with others in the same industry. Their objective is to put their equipment/consumables requirement online to the world's SMEs. This of course will give them tremendous purchasing power and will allow them to obtain the best purchasing deals available world wide.

Last month it was FORD, then some of the OIL company giants. Most recently it is reported to be the STAR ALLIANCE of which our very own THAI AIRWAYS is a member.

Imagine the competitive edge over corporations who do not enjoy the same purchasing power will be tremendous. Consider for a moment the air fare price structure an airline could offer the public if it could save 3 – 5% on fuel purchase.

As we develop our operation, we will be employing staff dedicated to constantly tracking the exact requirements of these purchasing companies, and ensuring that they are uploaded onto our trade enquiry bulletin boards, one such bulletin board for each category of business advertised on Thailand-YellowPages.com.

Thai businesses will have to minimise overheads, upgrade product quality, streamline their procedures and increase efficiency levels to compete effectively.

You can make a start by advertising your product range on Thailand-YellowPages.com at rates that give you an immediate advantage over competitors in other regions.

We all know the importance of market research. We actively encourage you to check out the online advertising options proposed by our competitors.

Once you have checked their pricing and found us to be cheaper, we suggest you also check out their advertising options, their concept and business philosophy. Yes do it, so that when you sign on with us you are 100% confident that you are entering into a long term partnership that will work to our mutual benefit, and to the benefit of the region in general.
