Thai minister was accused of insulting the royal family

In Thailand, the opposition accused the Minister of Foreign Affairs Kashit Piromya to insult the royal family, reports AFP.

The representatives of the party “Puea Thai” lodged an official complaint, calling to punish the Minister for contempt of the monarch.

In particular, we are talking about the statements made by the diplomat in April this year during his visit to the United States.

In April, Piromya said that to resolve the political crisis it is required to reform the institution of the monarchy and give more power to the king.

As proof of the allegations the opposition submitted a record of the official’s speech.

The King of Thailand 82-year-old Bhumibol Adulyadej has no role in political life, but he is a symbol of unity and deeply revered by the people.

Since last September, the monarch is in the hospital.

The king has not commented on two-month anti-governmental protests in Bangkok, which killed nearly 90 people.

According to the laws of Thailand, insulting of the royal family was a serious crime punishable by imprisonment up to 15 years.

In this regard, the theme of the monarchy is a taboo for the majority of Thai politicians.
